defrost

There must be a better way to defrost my freezer than to wait for huge chunks of ice to come crashing down...

Have you try to press on the small button in the center of the thermostat? On mine it was the "easy" defrosting setup... You run it once a week and then no more big quantity of ice to remove from your freezer. It defrosts and restarts the cooling after by itself. You just need to clear the water receptacle when it's done (a couple of hours after having pressed the button).

I think you have a more advanced freezer than me, Nathalie!

I should probably defrost more than once a year...

It's a good idea !

Have you tried using a hair dryer? That's kind of fun--you watch as you shave off layers of ice with heat. One warning: don't be tempted to stick a knife in there to chip away at the ice. I did that and chipped right into the freon line, which meant the end of that refrigerator.

I need to do that too. Thanks for reminding me!

Actually, I think I did end up sticking a knife in there... But mostly I really did just wait for the stuff to come crashing down.
